Good user interfaces make hard tasks easy. Bad user interfaces make simple tasks nearly impossible.

Multiplication was an elite skill during the roman period, but every child with elementary education can do it today. That was because multiplication with roman numerals was not very intuitive. The concept of multiplication was not that hard, but the user interface was bad.
